TLF-20080622 Rankings

I was about to post the latest rankings from TLR and realised that I haven’t done one for TLF for quite a while… and with the looming threat of a sudden shutdown of the IORESORT.COM server, it may very well be the last one I’ll ever post.

The first two ships here are victims of the score bug… there are only two know ways to fix the score on these ships.
1 – Leave the ships in the hospital and they’ll disappear from the rankings
2 – Hunt them down and kill them when they leave the hospital… eventually the score bug will occur again and the score will be reset to zero.

We’re all living on borrowed time in TLF… this could be the last chance you’ll ever have to extract your revenge, so log in and play… NOW!

Maintenance

This blog was recently updated to WordPress 2.5… but it turns out that quite a few of the plugins I use are either incompatible, outdated or broken, and some are just plain toxic! 😛

So I’m now reviewing, updating and fixing as much as I can.

If you experience any problems or notice a problem that I haven’t, send me an email, leave a comment or send me a message on TLF or TLR.

Polls: No updates or patches since September 2006… also turns out they haven’t been accepting any new votes for a couple of months!
FIXED The code I added from the BadBehaviour plugin to prevent ballot stuffing by a certain user needed to be updated due to a RBL server returning false positives.

Downloads: Where do I start… I’ve got the latest version from Oct 2007, the recent addition of some AJAX functionality to the admin pages broke three other plugins (I’ve spent weeks trying to fix the other plugins and only just made the connection)
REPLACING Found a better plugin that also allows multiple versions of the same file… should be fully cutover to the plugin in a few days. 🙂

Recent Comments: Well, all looks good to the readers, but this plugin is almost 4 years old, and completely breaks the widget system.
FIXED A bit of code editing fixed the widgets, but I’m thinking I might replace this plugin.

Tactic #1: Know your game server(s)!

Here’s the first post in a (hopefully) ongoing series of hints and tips…

What do you do if the game server doesn’t appear to be working? You try to browse to IOResort.com and your web browser times out or gives you some type of error message.

Unless the server has completely died or the hosting ISP has gone out of business, there’s a good chance it’s only a minor problem with DNS or a rogue process on the server.

That’s where this handy table comes into play… it’s got all the info that a player needs to access the games directly! 😀

Note: The problem this past weekend on ioresort.com only affected the TLR game… TLF & ST were still up and running, you just needed to remember what ports they use!

TLR is offline

I guess the title says it all…

I’ve been told an email has been sent to Ray, so I guess we’re playing the waiting game now 🙂

BTW I’ve reset the data for my online graph of TLR to just before the problem occured. The graph showed that over a 2 hour period the number of users gradually reached over 100. Since nobody was actually able to log in the graph isn’t that useful.

Comvatars out, Gravatar in

I’ve finally gotten around to changing the Avatar system for this blog.

The old avatar plugin (Comvatars) was cute, but only had a limited number of images that could be used.

The new avatar plugin uses images from Gravatar.com, which allows any image a user may want to be their avatar.

So go visit Gravatar.com and sign up for a gravatar.

TLF-20070910 Rankings

Update time!!!

Major movements in the ranks as a lot of people take their frustrations out on KC.

Kudos to Duks & the remaining loyal MSS players who have played a major part in the destruction over the last couple of weeks!
And I also have to thank Bestark, for his determination to see so many MPE ships on the first page 😀

More to come, as KC prepares his counter attack… decisions decisions, which ships out of his inherited hundreds will he use?
