TLF Newsflash! Trolls emerging from sewers!

Things are heating up in the TLF world… and once again I’m the target.

This time though, it’s an attack on my character and the content of this website!

I’m curious, what reason would JEEP have for writing his post?  (Hint: Read messages 10827-10830 on the TLF message board)

SIVART is just trying to bait me into joining his trollish behaviour.  I’m surprised he has time to read the message board though, he’s way too busy running those 30+ ships at TLF… it looks like he’s way to busy to even play at ELF anymore (I have access to the ELF history page again)

TELNET!! is a ‘common’ MSS ship, piloted by many.  So I’m willing to bet that NIMROD was actually talking to himself 🙂

Okay, Nimrod I realise you're attracted to me, but most people send flowers
to their valentines... trying to get my attention by destroying one of
my bunkers and a ship may be considered a bit extreme!

And besides, I'm happily married! :P

Cheers,

Lol!
Your computer is obviously infected with the PEBKAC trojan.
I suggest you put it back into it's box and send it to someone
who has a clue.

Cheers,
KRY

I'm surprised you even got there while the site was online. Ignore KRY,
he has a lot of convienent technical problems to explain why everything
he does is so very broken. just do what others like I have resorted to
doing, just don't go there and ignore the rants of the crazy krazy.

Now Why would anyone be surprisd that a KRY website does NOT
have spyware on worse on it I just dont know.
I guess thats one way to maybe steal passwords (trojan) or at a minimum
track how many time a machine logs into the game For those of you who
have a static IP address watch out...
A new low has been reached to win the game
But then again it might all be just another Rumor.
(I'll stay away form the site just to be safe)

wel that would explain how he got his hands on the sg1 ships (among so
many others that seem to do his dirty work).
Rumors always have some semblance of truth to them. Theres just no such
thing as coincidence in sst.
I'm sure he'll produce some more fake logs to prove that something did
or didn't happen. not much we can do about that.

Long live MSS!

TLF Newsflash! Strike led by fool!

What a surprise… one of my ships on TLF has been attacked and killed!

The real surprise though, is that my ‘nemesis’ (better known as Nimrod) somehow managed to convince twelve other people to assist him in taking out one of my bunkers and it’s occupant!

The really big surprise of the night though, was the dirty looks my wife gave me as I told her that I needed to spend some time playing SST to rebuild the lost ship.  I’d forgotten that it was Valentine’s day 🙁

So, due to the last statement, I need to put any retaliatory strikes on hold… family comes first, and being on my wife’s better side is second!!! 😉

Oh yeah, here’s the event log I was presented with while logging in (Nimrod will of course claim it’s a complete fabrication, and that he’s an innocent victim).

And finally… there’s only 12 names left on my list.  _DANTE_ left their ship parked in sector 1036720 with no defences, well now it’s missing a hull, a cockpit, atmosphere, etc, etc. 😛

New poll: Which games are you active in?

Due to the popularity of the last poll, it’s time to start a new one!

Is there still any life in the SST/TLR community?

  • The number of new players in TLR seems to have dropped off quite a bit, and a lot of regular players have started to disappear.
  • I’ve lost access to the ELF history page again, so I’ve got no visibility into what’s happening over there. The message boards have been quiet lately.
  • As for TLF… there’s a lot of activity going on over there… ship hijacking, returning conquerors (sorry vets), delusional captains, kamikaze ships… the list goes on (and on)!

As another player pointed out, polls can be totally pointless… and exploited!
If you can vote more than once, DO IT!
If you can get an ex-player to vote, DO IT! (And get them to start playing again as well!)

Which games do you actively play in?

Version watch

The last article about the different tarballs got me thinking about which versions are running on the known game servers.

Game Version
TLR TLR 0.6.2
TLF SST 2.1.0t
ELF SST 2.1.0t

Now all we need is a list of what bugs/features exist in each version…

Finding SST/TLR tarballs

I’m hoping to find some time this festive season to rewrite parts of my client… turns out I’m not as clever as I thought I was, and the multiple thread approach I used actually causes my client to crash on a dual-core processor! 🙁

So I’m creating a virtual linux box to throw onto my laptop, and I’ve come to the point where I need to find the SST/TLR installer.

Finding SST isn’t a problem, librenix.com has a link to the tarball. However I’ve been unable to find an article there that has a link to the TLR tarball? Good thing I remember that Bestark emailed me the location earlier this year! (Thanks B!)

** Update 24-Dec-06 – I’ve been sent the binaries for TLR 0.6.0 & 0.6.1, with a note that Ray has approved their release! You’ll need to install TLR 0.5.9 and then replace the starocon & starinit files from the newer version.
** Update 14-Jan-07 – More bug fixes
** Update 5-Jan-08 – Fixed the download links… older versions hosted on this site are only available to registered users.
** Update 25-Mar-2008 – Bestark has combined the 0.6.2 binaries into a complete installation tarball.
** Update 14-Apr-2008 – Changed download plugin. This one adds version capabilities.

Too quiet?

Wow, almost a month has gone by, and nothing seems to be going on?

TLR – I’ve barely been able to find time to log a ship in for the current round. The way the round started left my ship in an exposed situation. I was the first ship to log in for the new round, and my ship started off in the 240K region… Not really a problem, until I realised I was outside of the ‘known’ universe size… this meant that the elevators, transport booths etc wouldnt work for me!

NUMBER 52 also reported a navigation bug they found in galaxy #20. Not much info to go on, but I think I found what they’re referring to… If you try to generate an autopilot path from the top half of that galaxy back to the lower part you’ll get kicked out of the game! The weird part of this bug is that your ship remains logged in without any time usage penalty? I was able to duplicate the bug from several different computers & operating systems and in other galaxies too…

SST – Situation normal… it looks like a lot of old farms are being raided… by indies of course.

RL – I’ve been out of commision for the last month with the flu… which is part of the reason I’ve been having trouble finding time to log into TLR.
